Get to know the new labels in your inbox

Some of your messages are already sorted into labels, like Promos, Social and Travel. They’re bundled in your inbox so that they take up less space and can all be dealt with at once.

Try out labels for yourself:

Pin an email in a label

Pin emails that you still need to read or follow up on.

  1. Open a label in your inbox, like Promos or Finance.
  2. Open an email that you want to make sure you take a look at later.
  3. Select Pin Pin.

Now you’ll see your email directly in your inbox, as well as inside the label. Use the switch at the top of your inbox to see a list of your pinned items only Pin Slider.

Move an email into a different label

If you think that an email should be somewhere else, you can move it.

  1. Open a label in your inbox, like Promos or Finance.
  2. Open an email.
  3. Select “Move to” Move to.
  4. Choose another label listed under “Bundled in the inbox”.
  5. On the black bar at the bottom, you’ll see options to Undo or Always do this.

Plan or procrastinate

Manage your to-do list from your inbox. Add reminders for yourself or snooze emails and reminders until you’re ready to deal with them.

Try out Reminders and Snooze:

Create a reminder for yourself

Your reminders show up right in your inbox.

  1. Open Inbox.
  2. Go to the Create button .
  3. Select Reminder .
  4. Type in your reminder.
  5. Save.

Tip: A reminder can help you get things done by including relevant information like phone numbers for people and businesses. As you’re creating a reminder, choose a suggestion that has an icon next to it. For example, “ call Zack’s Pizza”.

Snooze an email until you get home

You can snooze an email to get it out of your inbox until you’re ready to deal with it, whether that’s tomorrow, next week or on a specific date.

You can even snooze an email or reminder so that it shows up the next time you arrive home, at work or at a specific address. You’ll need to use your phone the first time you snooze to a particular place.

  1. Open the Inbox app on your phone.
  2. Open an email.
  3. Select Snooze Snooze.
  4. Choose Pick place.
  5. Choose Home.

The next time you arrive home, you’ll get a notification on your phone, then you’ll see the email at the top of your inbox.

Set up a repeating reminder

You can also use Snooze to set up a reminder that repeats.

  1. Create a new reminder by going to Create and then Reminder .
  2. Type in something that you need to do regularly.
  3. Select Snooze Snooze.
  4. Choose Pick date & time.
  5. Choose the first day for your reminder. Then, choose a time.
  6. Click Does not repeat and choose one of the options.
  7. Save your reminder.

View and edit snoozed items

You can see everything that’s snoozed in the main menu Main menu under Snoozed. Repeating reminders have an icon on the right to help you find them Repeating. You can open the repeating reminder to make changes that will affect all future reminders in the series.

Clear away stuff that you’ve finished with

When you’ve finished with an email or reminder, mark it as Done Mark done to move it out of your inbox.

Try marking as Done:

You can mark emails or reminders as Done straight from your inbox without opening the email:

  1. Find an email that you don’t need in your inbox any more.
  2. On mobile, just swipe to the right. On a computer, move your mouse over an email or reminder and click Mark as done Mark done, on the right.

You can see everything that you’ve marked as Done by going to the main menu Main menu and choosing Done. Your Done items are always there, so you can search for them whenever you need them.

What about deleting?

If there’s an email that you need to delete, you can open the email, select “Move to” Move to and choose Bin. Bear in mind that messages in the Bin are permanently deleted after about 30 days.

Sweep away several emails at once

Sweep Sweep helps you keep your inbox clean by marking unpinned emails in a particular section as Done. You can use Sweep to clear out a load of older messages or to empty out labels with less important emails.

You can try Sweep and then click Undo right afterwards:

  1. In your inbox, go to a bundled label that has emails you don’t need to read, like Social.
  2. Pin Pin any emails that you want to keep in your inbox. Tip: Pin several emails without opening them by selecting the sender images on the left of each email and clicking Pin Pin.
  3. At the top right, click Sweep Sweep. Make sure that you choose the Sweep icon for that label.
  4. If you need to undo, look for the UNDO option on the black bar at the bottom after clicking Sweep.

Organise your inbox the way you want it

The labels that come in your inbox, like Promos and Finance, are yours to customise. Plus, you can create your own labels.

Take a look at label settings

You can set labels that you don’t need to check very often to be shown only once a day or once a week. And if you don’t want your emails grouped together, you can turn off bundling so that messages are shown individually instead.

This is how to check your label’s settings:

  1. Open a label in your inbox. Or go to the main menu Main menu and find your label.
  2. Select Settings at the top Settings.

Create your own labels

You can create your own labels and choose to have emails automatically added to them. If you already use labels in Gmail, your labels are already listed in the main menu Main menu. However, they won’t be shown in your inbox until you turn on bundling in the label’s settings.

Try out new Inbox features:

View photos straight from your inbox

Photos and videos are highlighted in your inbox so that you don’t even have to open the message to see them.

If you don’t have any emails with photos in your inbox, you can send yourself an email with a picture in it:

  1. Open Inbox.
  2. At the bottom right, go to the Create button .
  3. Click Compose .
  4. Enter your email address in the To field.
  5. Add your photo using Attach Attach.
Get real-time flight updates
The next time you get a flight confirmation email, you’ll have everything you need. When your flight is due, Inbox will show the flight status so that you’ll know if your flight’s on time. Plus, you can check in for your flight without having to open the email.

Speed dial a friend

Speed dial lets you start a message to your top contacts with just two steps.

  1. Open Inbox and go to the Create button .
  2. Select one of your contacts above the Compose button.
